Hey there, Daisies! I’ve been in a total “makeover” mode…par for the new year, I guess. I gave my blog a makeover and shared how to give yours one too (here, in case you missed it), gave my social media a makeover, and I’m currently rocking and rolling on my office makeover and will share it with you on the blog soon. Today, I want to follow up on my blog makeover and share some of the newest chic and feminine WordPress themes under $50 to help get you started if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed by all of the choices and costs out there. While it’s nice to have hundreds, or thousands, of dollars to pay a designer to design your blog, it isn’t always practical. That doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice beauty, function, or reliability.
Two things to note about all of the WordPress themes that made the list: (1) they require a WordPress.org self-hosted site and cannot be used with a WordPress.com site; and (2) they are responsive WordPress themes, so you can depend on them functioning across computer, tablet, and smartphone devices (how useless would I be if I recommended a non-responsive theme in this mobile age?).

Chloe & Marc by MaiLoveParis – $29
Minimalist on the front end, and loaded like a baked potato on the back end, the Chloe & Marc theme is sure to get your blog noticed for the right reasons. Some of the features of this theme that make it an unexpected powerhouse include: SEO optimized, 2 Slider styles, 4 post formats (Standard, Gallery, Video, and Music), custom Instagram widget plugin included, social media buttons in header and footer, and 3 custom layouts. This is a clean and chic theme with lots of white space, so the focus is on your photos, designs, and content.
Penelope by Minted Pixel – $49*
*Genesis Child theme – requires Genesis framework, which is sold separately ($59.95)
The Penelope theme’s coordinated 6-color palette is delicate and feminine, featuring lavender blush and offering plenty of white space while affording personality and femininity…it’s also modifiable in the WP Customizer. Upload your own header image for even more control over your blog’s appearance and branding. Need a landing page? You’ve got it, including a widget area for more functionality and personalization. Two of my favorite features of the Penelope theme are its custom Archive Page and Category Index template, making it easy and beautiful for your readers to find what they’re searching for on your site.
Elle & Blog by CityHouseDesign – $15
Why do I love the Elle & Blog theme? Let me count the ways: super feminine in its pink styling, modifiable theme colors, SEO optimized, 3 column grid layout for Home and Category pages, custom Instagram widget included, custom About Me with social media icons widget, and logo file included. Oh, did I mention that it’s only $15 for all of this? Hmm, mmm, you read that correctly, but go ahead and read it again. This is another theme with loads of white space and easy on the eyes fonts, so your readers will want to linger.
Rock Rose by MeriMint – $30
First things first…Rock Rose is a Genesis Child theme, but don’t let that hold you back if you don’t already have the Genesis framework because the Rock Rose theme includes the Genesis framework. Yes, you get the Genesis framework and the Rock Rose theme for $30. There is more to this theme than the great value. Rock Rose is beautiful with its pale pink background, adding extra femininity to your blog while remaining pleasing and easy on your readers’ eyes. This theme boasts 6 layouts (including dual sidebars, if you so desire), 10 hovering effect social media icons, a styling Pin It button, custom subscriber newsletter widget design, and custom search bar design.
Willow by MeriMint – $30
Okay, you want feminine, chic, and clean…you just don’t want pink. I get it. You’ve seen my site. Willow is another beautiful theme from the designer of Rock Rose. All of the features of Rock Rose sans pink. Bonus! This theme is also a Genesis Child theme and includes the Genesis framework with purchase of the theme.
Lisbon by Boutique WebDesign Studio – $17 (until 2/1/2016, then $54)
If you love the Lisbon theme like I do, then you better jump on it NOW because it is on sale for 60% off until February 1st, then you’ll pay the regular price of $54. Lisbon is a Genesis Child theme, but fret not…your purchase of the theme includes the Genesis framework. That means that until 2/1, you can get the theme and Genesis for $17 instead of $113.95. The Lisbon theme is gorgeous, featuring a feminine and floral theme and colors. You can also customize the header with your own logo, as well as customizing the fonts and colors. This theme is a social media maven’s dream, including custom Twitter and Instagram widgets and social media integration.
Silver by Boutique WebDesign Studio – $15 (until 2/1/2016, then $47)
Silver is another beautiful creation from the designer of the Lisbon theme, just sleeker and cleaner, featuring a beautiful pink layout. Boutique WebDesign Studio is celebrating the launch of its WordPress themes with a 60% off sale until February 1st, so this is another theme to jump on now if you like it (before the regular price of $47 goes into effect). The Silver theme is a Genesis Child theme, but your purchase includes the Genesis framework. (Are you loving these savings?) All of the features of the Lisbon theme are available with Silver, so you will not miss out on customization possibilities. Another bonus of the Boutique WebDesign Studio WordPress themes is that your purchase includes unlimited support, updates, and websites.
All of these WordPress themes are available from Creative Market. You can also find every kind of digital goody you could want for your blog, social media, or printing needs–graphics, fonts, photos, and templates.
What is the most important feature to you when selecting a theme?
C. Freedom of customization.
